Clayton James started his musical career in London as a guitarist and bassist. He developed his own musical style very early, and had his first performance at his middle school’s annual talent show. He continued to pursue his musical career when his family moved to New Jersey. As he grew older he started to hone his craft as a rapper. Clayton’s rap style is inspired by the sounds he heard coming out of the northeast region at the time like Joey Badass, Ratking, Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies. He also draws inspiration from artists like Black Thought, Amy Winehouse, and several UK Grime artists.
Clayton believes that the experience of performing live and creating a unique bond with audience is very important. It’s a skill he tries to improve on continuously. He feels like building this connection with the audience augments the power of his music exponentially.
Clayton James’s music is raw, genuine, and lyrical with an emphasis on the boom bap style of rapping that inspired him to rap in the first place!
“Every time I go into the studio I try to reinvent myself and create my own unique and creative style of music.”
